This Brant Point area garden was built on a flat lot of abandoned tennis court. A series of rooms were articulated with plants, fencing, stone walls, and water, to create views within the garden. The rooms culminate to a central pool area that connects the main house, the guest house, and the large open lawn together.
The morning garden features an culinary herb garden, center left, and planting beds with contracting plant texture and leaf form. The colors are understated so that the eye can focus on the subtle quality of this area.
A garden sculpture was placed in axis with the dining room windows. Beds of Ivy are lined with small boxwoods. Sweetgum trees, Hydrangea paniculata, and Thujas also found a home in the section of the garden.
Walking by the guest room wing of the main house, one discovers the pool area and the guest house at the back.
The edge of the pool is touched by a small grouping of Nepeta; a very popular perennial on the island.
To get to the guest house, one must walk across water on a shallow pool shhellf. Large stones were anchored to make the stride comfortable.
The beautiful copper bowl was hand crafted by a Pennsylvania artisan. The bowl gently spills its content into to the pool.
"La Roche Percee". O'Rourke decided to use a stone found on site as a sculptural element in line with the pool. She directed the stone mason to pierce the stone for added visual impact.
A simple linear walkway leads to the pool area from the guest house.
